Get to Know Kathryn Mehan!
__________
I was born and raised in the suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri. While I lived in the city, my grandparents lived on a 600 acre farm just to the north. I had the best of both worlds! I took ballet, tap, gymnastics, baton and modeling lessons in the city and on the weekends I headed to the farm where I rode horses and tractors, baled hay and skated on frozen ponds. It was an ideal childhood and I have fond memories of my family and wonderful times spent together.
After college, I moved back to Kansas City where I worked in the fashion industry. I loved the sales experience; loved connecting people to the things that looked good on them and finding “the right fit” so to speak! I studied the buying programs, met with vendors and ultimately began traveling as a manufacturers representative. I had showrooms in both the Dallas and Kansas City Fashion Marts. I loved carrying lines no one else had and I loved the details of well designed garments. From there, I was introduced to the fine jewelry market and fell in love with gemstones! I ended up traveling 16 states selling fine jewelry for Krementz Jewelry. This is the job that relocated me to the east coast in 1997.
After getting married and having my daughter, I decided to quit traveling, eventually accepting a job close to home working for Wilson Oil and Propane in their front office. It wasn’t long before the sales bug hit me again and I saw an opportunity in their propane field division. Over the course of 11+ years, I worked closely with the owner to grow our residential and commercial propane business as well as the propane AutoGas division. I worked with builders and land developers installing propane designs for multi and single family units. In this capacity, I began to study housing trends.
In my personal life, I was always searching for the home of my dreams which I finally found with my partner, Bruce in 2016. We rehabbed both our homes and sold them in record time then moved into our historic, Howell Lewis Shay house Windrush in Rose Valley. I met my friend and neighbor, Scott Laughlin shortly thereafter. We enjoy shared interests in our community, supporting the Rose Valley Folk and the Rose Valley Museum & Historical Society as well as a love of history, architecture, design and preservation. We began to talk about a collaboration and a career transition for me.
I am currently a member of the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church where I also serve as a deacon. I am also a member of the board of The Helen Kate Furness Free Library and was sworn in last year to the Rose Valley Borough Council. I have served as a fundraiser for the Nether Providence Fueled Up and Fired Up 5K Run, the Swarthmore Presbyterian Nursery Day School and the Home Builders Association. I was a member of Philadelphia Clean Cities for 5 years and past board member of the Rose Valley Folk. I am a past President of the Swarthmore-Rutledge Elementary Home and School Association and a loyal Strath Haven panther mom. I have one daughter who is now a senior at The University of Tampa.
And now, I’m so pleased to join Scott’s Team at Classic Neighborhoods! This is the realization that an enthusiastic sales career can also focus on a passion for where you live, that community can also be helping new clients find the home of their dreams and that history can be alive in your present!
